Standing Regulations for Motocross Quads

STANDING MOTOCROSS REGULATIONS FOR QUADS

1). ELIGIBILITY. Entrants must be over the age of sixteen years.

2). BRAKES must be capable of operating, as minimum, to both rear wheels.

3). TYRES. There is no restriction as to the tyres that may be used other than as may be laid down in the Supplementary Regulations, but chains and other non-skid devices will not be permitted.

4). FOOTRESTS AND HANDLEBARS. The ends of the footrests must be rounded with a radius of not less than 8mm(3/8"). The width of the handlebars shall not be less than 650mm nor more than 850mm. The ends of the handlebars must be plugged with a solid material or covered by a handlebar grip. The ends of the handlebars on all machines shall be rounded or otherwise protected.

5). NERF BARS. All Quads must be fitted with nerf bars.

6). THROTTLE. All machines must be fitted with self-closing throttles.

7). CHAINS/DRIVE SHAFTS, ETC. An adequate guard must be fitted to prevent any accidental contact with the primary chain or any part of the run not in contact with the sprocket.

8). EXHAUST PIPES. The end of the exhaust pipe or pipes must not project beyond any part of the vehicle or its bodywork and may not project past the vertical tangent of the rear tyre. Exhaust gases must not be discharged so as to raise dust or foul the tyres or brakes, or inconvenience a following driver. Any provision for the discharge of waste or surplus oil must be so made that it does not inconvenience a following driver.

9). CONTROL OF EXHAUST SOUND LEVEL. The Clerk Of The Course may exclude any machine which they consider excessively noisy.

10). RUNNING OF ENGINES. The running of engines is prohibited except during official practising and actual racing, and for a period not exceeding five minutes prior to the start of each race. A breach of this regulation will involve exclusion from the meeting of the rider of the machine concerned.

11). SPECIFICATION OF QUADS.
(a) The engine must drive both rear wheels.
(b) The engine must be behind the front wheels and central in front of a line between the rear wheel centres.
(c) The measurement from the front wheel to its following rear wheel must be equal.
(d) Provision for the riders seat must be forward of a line between the rear wheel centres and above and/or behind the engine to give the rider, when seated, full and safe control of the machine.
(e) Ignition cutouts operative in the event of a rider accidentally dismounting and fitted on the low tension side of the ignition system are required on all vehicles raced. Any part of the cutout that remains live when disconnected must be shrouded in order to prevent accidental contact with any part of the motorcycle.

12). FUEL. Unleaded petrol only.

13). NUMBER PLATES. Two number plates must be carried. One at the front of the vehicle and one at the rear. Both must be clearly visible.

14). HELMETS. Helmets bearing anyone of the undermentioned "standard" marks may be approved to conform with certain criteria considered necessary for helmets used in motorsport.
